ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) - Paul W. Sierer, a longtime journalist who served as editor of The Daily Independent from 1980 to 1989, died Saturday morning. He was 81.
Sierer spent most of his career at The Independent, rising through the ranks from news reporter to editor.
Sierer, who lived in Ironton, Ohio, is survived by his wife Dorothy and five daughters.
After starting his career at the Ironton (Ohio) Daily News in 1944, Sierer moved to the staff of The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington, W.Va., and from 1951 to 1953 at the Dayton Daily News in Dayton, Ohio. From there, he moved to the Daily Independent in 1953.
