Rebate Checks Start Rolling Out Today

Millions of Americans will be getting money from the federal government starting today.

More than 7-million people will get electronic rebates this week. After that, paper checks will start arriving by mail.

President Bush says the I.R.S. Rebate checks will help boost the struggling economy. The most a single person will receive is $600. Couples are eligible for up to $1200.

Stores like Wal-Mart and Kroger are offering things like cashing the checks on site - or bonus money if you convert the checks into gift cards.

An Associated Press-Ipsos poll of taxpayers found that only 19% say they'll go out and spend their checks, while 45% say they'll use the money to pay bills.

When your refund will arrive is based on the last two digits of your social security numbers.
You can check the status of your rebate check by logging onto the IRS website, www.irs.gov, or by calling 1-800-829-4477.

Such anger!Seems some are happy to be getting something back from the goverment[i know i am].But back to the angry ones. Why complain UNLESS youre not getting one.If you get one you deserve it if not YOU DONT. Being a dope dealer or pot farmer dont qualify most for a tax rebate does it?Maybe thats why they are so many crying? Just my thoughts and mine alone i guess

Child killer out of prison for good behavior? This is got to be one of the worst mistakes that this parole board will make. Where is the justice for that ten year old boy? Our system seems to be working for the criminals in this world. The victims have nothing to hope for anymore. It seems that if you get caught selling drugs that you will serve more time than taking the life of another person. These laws need to be changed, they suck. I ask you were is the justice in this ? Why is it that the people in this world just dont care ? This is so hard to believe that a person can get out on good behavior, Heck I could fake it too if I knew that this was the way out ! Our justice system as gone to hell in a waste basket. It's time that the laws are changed. I only hope that this dos'nt ever happen to another child. I know that she spent 15 years in prison, but ask yourself, what if this was your child, how would you feel?

Two comments: Number 1 - WHAT in IRVINE...(edited)if you think the law will pull you over just because they think you received a stimulus check. Number 2 - Robert in Winchester - You make sense on your comparison of food thrown away versus gas used when talking dollars. We waste more than any other country yet we gripe more about not having something, (edited)

Did it really surprise anyone that the price of gas went up at about the same time we were supposed to start receiving our rebates? If President Bush had really wanted us to spend that rebate, he would have put a price freeze on gas. Guess he figured he'd get it one way or another.

To me it is infinitely more frustrating when they say you should get a check any day and it doesn't come. It would have been better to announce it after the fact. Our last two numbers fit in the first round of checks 0-20. We still haven't gotten ours and they said it would begin Monday. Now they say we will get it by May 2.If it takes a week to get an electronic transfer then they should say. I guess I'll believe it when I see it.
