Rebate Checks Start Rolling Out Monday

Millions of Americans will be getting money from the federal government starting today.

More than 7-million people will get electronic rebates this week. After that, paper checks will start arriving by mail.

President Bush says the I.R.S. Rebate checks will help boost the struggling economy. The most a single person will receive is $600. Couples are eligible for up to $1200.

Stores like Wal-Mart and Kroger are offering things like cashing the checks on site - or bonus money if you convert the checks into gift cards.

An Associated Press-Ipsos poll of taxpayers found that only 19% say they'll go out and spend their checks, while 45% say they'll use the money to pay bills.

When your refund will arrive is based on the last two digits of your social security numbers.

You can check the status of your rebate check by logging onto the IRS website, www.irs.gov, or by calling 1-800-829-4477.

The rebate checks will help but gas is so high everyone is barely staying a float. I have a family of 5 we can barely get by, because what once was is fading. The cost of food and milk have risen due to gas prices. Debts to be paid is where most of our money will be spent. My utility bills such as electric is around 200.00 and higher a month, not to mention the water bill. I would love to say our money will go back in to the economy in new products. Such as clothes and appliances and new gadgets. Times are so rough if we don't catch up our bills with this money, we our looking to not buy anything new in the near future. It has became a necessity to buy only what's needed, and to make less trips to the stores and markets, because gas and product prices will not allow it. I hope that the president and other government officials realize that, although appreciated, the checks will come and go and if there is no change in gas prices, the stress on the economy will stay.

the new 5 dollar bill should have had a seal right beside it saying good for one us gallon of gas, i think lowering gas prives would be better than giving put checks, what about a single mom living on welfare that doesent work she should be getting a check also

if the big companies keep leaving this country, for cheaper wworkers.they should pay a huge import tax on all products.then they will pass it on to us. A new company with the same product can start up the same business ,then get purchased by the bigcompany and get no import tax what so e ver. redefine AMERICAN MADE.Ineed a job like oeveryelse

Why doesnt our president understand that by just lowering gas prices would help the american people better than giving us a liitle rebate check. This is insane. Im am 100 percent voting for hillary clinton. I hope she can get this economy back on track. President bush has messed it up so bad.

I am confused, they say we are getting rebate checks early but according to the IRS website I am still getting mine on the orginal date. It seems like the people with the last 2 ss# 00- 20 will get theirs early and the rest of us will still be waiting until May.
