A Floyd County man is in a Nevada hospital after being hit by a car.

You might remember hearing about Adam Harbin when he left Kentucky March 11th on a bike trip to California.

On Friday afternoon, about six weeks after he started the voyage, he was hit by a van in the desert southwest.

WYMT's Dara Rees talked with Harbin.

Adam Harbin is now at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas with compound fractures in his left leg and right arm.

Harbin says he was 50 miles south of the Hoover Dam in Arizona when he was hit by a van.

Adam Harbin says he doesn't remember much about the accident.

“I was riding along and I was hit by a van, probably from behind. It turned out being a group of tourists from Australia,” Harbin said.

Here at Charley's Gilled Subs Harbin's friends started collecting donations to help Harbin make it across the country, now the money may go to medical bills.

Harbin worked at Food City right next to Charley's. Workers say they are ready to see him back for lunch as soon as possible.

Harbin parents are with him in the Nevada hospital.

Harbin says at this point it does not seem like he will finish his ride to California.

Right now he is focused on recovery which doctors say could take up to a year.
