NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - An animal-rights group is calling for the
jockey of the Eight Belles' to be punished. The filly had to be
euthanized following her second-place finish in the Kentucky Derby

PETA wrote in a letter to Kentucky's racing authority that the
filly was likely injured before the finish and asked that Saez be
suspended while Eight Belles' death is investigated.
PETA spokeswoman Kathy Guillermo says she wonders why the
jockeys are allowed to whip the horses mercilessly.
A call to the jockeys' room at Delaware Park, where Saez raced
on Sunday, went unanswered.
