PETA Wants Eight Belles Jockey Suspended After Filly's Death In Kentucky Derby

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - An animal-rights group is calling for the
jockey of the Eight Belles' to be punished. The filly had to be
euthanized following her second-place finish in the Kentucky Derby
on Saturday.

Gabriel Saez was riding Eight Belles when she broke both front
ankles.

PETA wrote in a letter to Kentucky's racing authority that the
filly was likely injured before the finish and asked that Saez be
suspended while Eight Belles' death is investigated.

PETA spokeswoman Kathy Guillermo says she wonders why the
jockeys are allowed to whip the horses mercilessly.

A call to the jockeys' room at Delaware Park, where Saez raced
on Sunday, went unanswered.

PETA just wants attention. Period. I am a huge animal lover and was watching the race and the race was OVER and they were circling the track for cool down and to return to the stables when she went down. Truly a sad thing to see, but she should not be stripped of her finish! The jockey didn't cause her injury, it happened, it cannot be taken back. Be grateful that staff were on hand to preven prolonged and unnecessary pain! Please check out this site for all of PETA's "good works" http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

For those individuals that are negative about PETA--I have to agree that Eight Belles should hold her victory; afterall she doesn't have what PETA does--that is a "life." The saddest part of this tragedy is that children within miles of the Kentucky Derby go to bed hungry when individuals can waste money on parties, clothing, HATS, horses, ...to watch horse run in a circle instead of being unselfish by seeing that children have full bellies and shoes on their feet that aren't plagued with holes. Everyone needs to wake up--if you have more than you need--you have too much. Some of the children in KY would be happier to eat a horse rather than watch it race--hunger is a devastating fact for many children.

TO "fed up" I'm sure that PETA representatives are smart enough to know that the personal pronoun "I" is capitalized. Nonetheless, are you implying that the jockey on the horse with a whip in his hand isn't at fault? Most of the "idiots" that bet or just observe horse racing aren't aware of the negative attributes of horse racing. So do you also believe that gun manufactures are the ones that pull triggers? Or is the person with the gun (whip) in their hand?

Sad the animal died, but would you be complaining if the Jockey had gotten hurt. NO, sorry PETA go back to Norfolk. Worry a little more about human life, like those in Marynmar who was hit by a cyclone with an estimated 10,000 dead.

You support PETA 100% big woo. Everyone gets all bent out of shape over an animal being put down. The animal had to be put down for one. And two, this horse has been givin more attention than the Louisville contractor killed in Iraq rebuilding schools. And yes it is about gambling. Who cares we all gamble, and don't say you don't. Everyone gambles one way or another. Some people just has diffrent ways of getting there jollies. I've bet on horses and ive bet on people fighting. Get over it, yeah sad the animal died, but as the almighty fags i mean PETA would say, "ANIMALS HAS SOULS TOO". Therefore it was its time. SHUT THE(edited) UP PETA, go harrass Paris and her Mink Coat.
