Tourism is the third largest industry in the bluegrass.

Tuesday Governor and First Lady Beshear along with Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo are hitting the trails in Knott County to help kick off the state's adventure tourism initiative.

Governor Beshear, the first lady, and Lieutenant Governor Mongiardo are celebrating adventure tourism by visiting the mountains.

Officials and residents from across the bluegrass are at the ATV Safety Training Center in Hindman to promote the beauty of the mountains.

Beshear says the plan opens up more areas of the state as tourist destinations.

“We've got such beautiful land here in Eastern Kentucky and we haven't been taking advantage of it...the tourism business can be huge here,” Governor Beshear said.

“Our plan is to connect what we have here and interconnect those trails to the western part of the state. So you can get on a horse or a four wheeler or a mountain bike and go across the state,” Lt. Governor Mongiardo said.

Governor Beshear says he wants the rest of the nation to know about the natural beauty and visit Kentucky.

The event was a great time. A comment to crystal, If it wasn't for our CURRENT ADMIN Knott Co. would have nothng that it has now!! Thanks to Judge Thompson! Knott Co. has more for people than it has had in many years!! Thanks Judge. Standing there yesterday evening looking around to see local people, out of town people, County Officals,Law Enforcement, Politicans, etc.. But there was one face I didn't see, and NEVER see for that matter THE MAYOR!!! What is wrong with this picture? You would think The Mayor would be out to help support, but no not a chance. This is sad. I'm sure the Governor & Lt. Gov would really apperiate walking into the Welcome Center of Hindman and see that there is NO TOURISM Office there!! HELLO you stupid people isn't that the reason it was built!!! When people come to Knott Co. to visit that have never been here, the first place they go is the Welcome Center to find out info about Knott Co. Well guess what There is no one there to talk to them about Tourism.

WOW Good to have our governor and lieut. governor hear in Knott Co., i was not there but i'am sure it was a Democratic atmosphere there at sutton park. So maybe just maybe there will be hope of getting our county back on track, there has been alot of damage done under this present adminstration in county goverment. To be trueful it's going to be tough on whoever takes over. With all of the debit that the county is in, but i'am sure the governor will study this real hard and appoint a real trustworthy and honest person to take over and try to get this county(my county)back on the right track, to being honest and fair to Knott Co. And lets hope that this adventure tourism will have some positive affect on our county. In closing Randy(county judge) i hope to goodness that you did'nt charge everone that eat this evening(especial our visiters from down state). LOL
