Beshear Appoints New Board of Education Members

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed a former
Republican candidate for governor to the Kentucky Board of Education.

Republican Billy Harper of Paducah is among five new members appointed to the panel that oversees Kentucky's public elementary schools and high schools.

Harper mounted an unsuccessful campaign against former Gov. Ernie Fletcher in last year's GOP primary.

Beshear also appointed Austin Moss of Hopkinsville, Dorothy "Dorie" Combs of Richmond, Stephen Neal of Louisville, and Brigitte Ramsey of Falmouth to the 12-member board.

The appointments are to fill four vacancies and one resignation.
