Town Mourns Loss of KY Soldier Killed In Afghanistan Save Email Print

A 22-year-old Kentucky soldier from Greenup died while fighting in Afghanistan with the 101st Airbourne Division.

The Department of Defense says Specialist Jeremy Gullett of Greenup died when a roadside bomb hit his vehicle.

He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell.

Specialist Gullett was a 2003 graduate of Greenup County High School. His mother says he wanted so be a soldier since he was a little boy. He leaves behind his wife Janeth and their 21-month-old daughter. Gullet was also adopting his wife's 6-year-old daughter who lives in the Philippines.

He will receive full firefighter honors when he's buried because he was a member of the Little Sandy Volunteer Fire Department along with his mother, father and uncle.

The family had been told his remains would arrive in a week to 10 days. Funeral arrangements are pending, in the mean tine, flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of the funerals.

I am so sorry for this familys loss. My brother left for Afghanistan this week and it breaks my heart to hear these soldiers are dying while trying to sereve our country. The family is in my prayers!
