Poll: Most Kentuckians Fed Up With State Legislature

Most Kentuckians say they're fed up with the state legislature.

That's just one finding of the WKYT/Herald-Leader Kentucky Poll, which also shows people want to vote on the casino amendment.

This year's session of the legislature drew lots of criticism, as some people said it went nowhere. Lawmakers presented the fewest number of bills passed by a regular session in recent memory.

In the Kentucky Poll of 600 likely voters, 66 percent say they disapprove of the way the legislature is handling its job.

A similar number dislikes the bare bones budget passed by lawmakers.

The poll also shows Kentuckians clearly want the right to vote on the casino gambling issue.

81 percent indicate they want a chance to say yes or no on a constitutional amendment regarding expanded gaming.

But the poll also shows casinos would be far from a sure thing, if it did get on the ballot. In fact, 49 percent indicate they would oppose casinos. 44 percent would be for them, and only a few would be undecided.

The gambling issue can't come up again until the next regular session in 2010.

i thought these folks were supposed to represent their public! I write our representatives and senators and they reply by telling me what THEY want, not what their constituents want. I know it would probably be a useless endeavor, but i'm tempted to run for office myself, just to give these guys some competition which they've not had for a while, here...

I too am sick & tired of these lying a** holes! They promise the moon & deliver absolutely NOTHING! I agree, we need to get rid of Williams, Richards, Stumbo, & the rest of them that has been there way TOO LONG! I'll vote for anyone that isn't in there now! Not one of the present lawmakers will get my vote! NOT ONE! I agree with Steve, we need to show Washington, DC & Frankfort, KY that we are sick & tired of politics as usual! I say vote for a WHOLE NEW BUNCH in BOTH PLACES! However, I doubt that we can get enough people to agree to do anything about it! Part of the problem is the politicians keep US so divided that we cannot stand against THEM! It's hard to get 2 people to agree on ANYTHING these days! If we would just stand as one voice, then we would see change! But in my heart, I don't feel that will EVER happen! A nation/state divided against itself, will fall! That's what happen to the Roman Empire and it's happening to the USA too!

You are right Larry, they either vote for the same ones over and over, or they are too lazy to go vote and try to make a difference. I hope the prediction of only 25% of voters will turn out for Tuesday is wrong. I hope 100% turn out. If they really want to make an impact, EVERYONE that can vote NEEDS to vote on Tuesday!!

They supposedly are there to serve the interest of their constituents, but spend all their time fighting like bullies n a playground...David williams being the biggest one of all. Are the people of KY aware that he won't even let other legislators speak if they want to say something he disagrees with? I understand he's been known to turn of microphones so others won't have a voice. Is that democracy? Somebody needs to like into how much time they actually spend working.

People say they are fed up with the Ky.Legislature. Yet they vote for the same dead beats again and again.

Beshear? What a loser he is!!!! His casino cronies bought him the election and he even blew that. He knocks down any Republican suggestions just because of the origin. He made a stupid remark about how Veep Chaney should take our president on a hunting trip in hopes that "W" be shot. I know Bush is not a very popular leader, but to hear Our Commonwealth leader suggest something like that, even if he's trying to be humorous, which he's not, is just another example of why many in our country think that we are an ignorant, country, barefoot, and uninformed population. Please resign, Steve, to save us the embarassment of impeaching your ignorant (edited)
