Hotel Plans Are Still On

You may drive by it everyday and many people wonder why it hasn't been built.

A new luxury hotel is the main reason many people say they voted for liquor by the drink sales in Pineville nearly three years ago and there's still no hotel.

The vote on whether to allow liquor by the drink was a decision that deeply divided the city of Pineville in August 2005.

It passed but the main reason many voted "yes" was to pave the way for this.

The city awarded the contract for the hotel project to a developer in October 2006. But that was more than a year and a half ago.

City officials say it took months for a bank to appraise the exact value of the multi-million dollar project.

Just this week they met with developers and architects who say they're ready to build.

The full service hotel is expected to have over one hundred rooms, convention space, and incorporate Pineville's off-track betting.

Pineville's mayor says developers now expect to start construction on the new hotel later this year. He thinks it could be around August.
