Eight Belles Memorial Fund Set Up

The Kentucky Equine Humane Center (KyEHC) has established the Eight Belles Memorial Fund with the blessing and cooperation of Eight Belles' trainer Larry Jones and his wife Cindy.

"We chose KyEHC so our filly's memory and our love for her will live on, and in turn, Eight Belles will be helping horses that are less fortunate," Larry and Cindy Jones said.

Donations made to the Eight Belles Memorial Fund at the KyEHC will go directly toward providing humane treatment and shelter to any horse in Kentucky that is in need. Horses given refuge at KyEHC are available for adoption to caring homes.

All donations are tax deductible.

I think this is a great idea to set up a memorial for Eight Belles. I was at the Kentucy Derby and actually saw her fall and the whole tragic ending. My heart goes out to the family that raised her even though they may have money I'm sure she still was very special to them. Eight Belles was a beautiful horse and should be remembered she gave her all that day in May. She will have a place in our hearts forever.

It's a wonderful idea to establish a fund to help other horses in memorial for Eight Belles. As for the other comments here, no one asks or expects donations from those too shallow to see that the needs of fellow living critters are basically the same as our own and that we are given dominion over them. Money donated in memory of Eight Belles does NOT increase wealth to her owners, it goes to help other horses in need of shelter, food & care. It's not about who the owner is or what they have. It's about caring for suffering animals in need regardless of the circumstances that put them in need. You can rest assured that those who contribute to animal rescue & research ARE the same folks also contributing to children's resources. Fund raising for gas prices?? Rest assured that if for any reason our vehicles get parked forever, those who don't think saving a horse is important will be in line with the rest of us needing the services of one. RIP Eight Belles...you've got my donation.

i think we have more important stuff to be raising money for such as a children and gas prices... not a horse.

Why make a donation in memory of a horse that was owned by people who are filthy rich!?!??!
