University of Kentucky's Solar Car Team has developed a car, Gato Del Sol III, that runs exclusively on solar energy. The car boasts of 474 individual solar panels

The team, comprised of students, plans to compete against other engineering universities in the 2008 North American Solar Challenge this July.

The challenge consists of a 2,400 mile race. It begins in Texas, with six checkpoints along the 10 day journey. They hope to compete the race at the final checkpoint in Calgary, Canada.

Matt Hatfield, Project Manager, says, " Just this car is making people aware of what UK is doing and it's turning a lot of heads."

Gato Del Sol III is the only solar car in Kentucky and is estimated to cost $125,000 to build.

Wow this is wonderful and it does not use gas! If you can afford one make sure you get up at 3AM to get to work by 8 because it only goes 10mph. Oh wait, 3AM that's before the sun rises....Get up at 8AM to get to work by noon. That's better.
