In a time when just getting from point A to point B seems to wipe out the wallet...something usually has to give.
“You can't hardly afford to have fun anymore.” Says Rick Heideman of Somerset, who says says he's lucky he doesn't have to drive far to put his boat in Lake Cumberland.
“We put some gas in it (his boat) on the way down at $4.29 a gallon. So we didn't fill it up,” he says.
J.D. Hamilton of Lee's Ford Resort and Marina decided to give his customers a break. Gas may be the one thing that keeps people from vacationing this summer and he says he decided to take that out of the equation, by paying people back what they spent on gas to get there....from wherever they came from.
What's more, say's he'll throw in dinner at his restaurant.
“And so they can come down....and after their drive they have dinner and have fun on the lake,” says Hamilton.
The deal requires that customers pay for a package, which start at about $450.
That deal is good news for some who've already spent about that much just getting to to the Lake.
“Just in gas alone, $400. That's for the truck and boat, yes,” says Mike Schlotman of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Hamilton says take the gas increase out of the question of whether to vacation and the answer is easy.
“That's why we came up with the package...just eliminate that problem.”
