Park And Ride Goes Regional?

Hundreds of people commute to work in Lexington everyday.

Now with rising gas prices, some of those people are really feeling the pain in their wallets. Some people in clark county are crying out for help and LexTran is listening.

Lexington Transit Authority officials met tonight with a group of citizens in clark county, to discuss the possbility of creating a bus route, that would pick up commuters and bring them to Lexington. Some folks at the meeting say this regional park and ride would change their lives for the better. Thursday's meeting was aimed to see if regional transportation is something citizens want. If approved the route could start running this summer.

However, before that can be done the county and Lextran must find a way to make sure citizens are paying their fair share for the service. Currently LexTran Operations are subsidized by Lexington taxpayer money.

I would also gladly use Lextran if it came my way. Not only would I save on gas, I would also save unnecessary mileage on my vehicle. Thank you to Lextran for considering park n ride for those who do not pay taxes for this service. When will you consider providing this for those of us who do pay the tax? I am in Lexington & have to travel almost half way to my destination before passing the first Lex tran stop. There is no place, of course for me to park, and no point, since I am half way there.

If people from Clark, Scott, Jessamine, etc are working in Fayette Co, then they DO pay taxes at a 2.25% rate

The Lex Tran Idea is great and i for one would love to be able to use this. I drive from versailles Ky and the distance is about 26 miles one way so Gas is really important. add the fact that as a UK employee i will not get a pay increase this year, and Parking Fees at UK have gone up along with everything else maybe i won't need to pay parking here.

If people from Clark, Scott, or Jessamine county wish to use the Lextran system they need to help subsidize the program with their own taxing systems. It's not fair that we have to pay for our own transportation in the city as well as commuters from the suburbs that don't subsidize the service. Thumbs down!

I would gladly use Lextran if it came my way. Not only would I save on gas, I would save unnecessary mileage on my vehicle. Thank you to Lextran for listening to adjacent counties in need of assistance with these outrageous gas prices. Speaking of which, oil closed at $4 a barrell lower, around $126 a barrell. Why haven't our gas prices come down accordingly? Because the gas stations are enjoying huge profits just like big oil is, that's why! Their owners can afford to buy luxurious cars and homes, while the rest of us ponder bankruptcy do to the extremely high cost of living. Again, THANK YOU to Lextran and Fayette County for being willing to help, and Thanks to our leaders in Clark County for finally asking for it!!
