A child is flown to UK Hospital after being hit by a car in Bourbon County.

We're told the 9-year-old boy was riding his bicycle on Sandra Lane when he was hit Saturday evening. The driver of the car, who lives near the child, told 27NEWSFIRST the boy darted out in the road and he didn't have time to slam on the brakes.

"The child rolled out and there was nothing I could do. It scared me to death, I didn't know how bad he was hurt", said driver Kelly Adams Sr.

The boy's mother said her son has a broken leg and head injuries. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash and no charges have been filed against the driver.

To Loving Parent: In most areas, it takes a petition signed by those in the neighborhood supporting a children at play sign. Check with City Hall for how many signatures are needed and proper procedure. As for lowering speed limits or adding traffic control lights/signs: an impact study is generally done and (sad to say this, but) a certain number of fatalities must be documented to get things changed like speed limits, stop signs, traffic lights added, etc. But kids are excited right now, summer break from school has just begun, so they are less concerned for watching where they play at the moment. Sounds like it was truly an accident, and thank God the child is still alive. I am sure the driver of the vehicle is just about as traumatized as the child and his/her family. Speedy recovery to all involved, both physical and mental!!

It is the responsible you take as a parent to watch your kids especcially when they are playing outside. Kids cannot interpret dangerous situations like adults can. Anyone can have kids but where are the real parents?

I consider myself to be VERY fortunate because I see this kind of thing almost daily in my neighborhood. Kids just don't pay attention and as a driver, we must be extra cautious in and around kid infested areas. My heart goes out to the child but I also have great sympathy for what I consider an innocent driver who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
