Major Owensboro Hotel Closing

OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) - The Executive Inn Rivermont's days appear numbered in Owensboro.

Officials say people staying at the hotel are being told to be out by Sunday. And businesses inside the hotel are being told they have 30 days to vacate.

Jim Voyles of Total Market Concepts, a sports marketing company with an office in the hotel, says he was initially told by Executive Inn staff members on Friday to move his business out by Sunday. He says he was later told that businesses could remain in the hotel for 30 days.

The looming closing is causing people to scramble to seek new accommodations in Owensboro. Voyles says the hotel was booked by people planning to attend a 16-and-under Fast Pitch National Championship this summer.

And officials at the local performing arts center have been told to move out all crews staying at the hotel. The crews are in town for the International Mystery Writers Festival.

It is unfortunate that what was once such a lovely hotel is now in question. Quite obviously if they were able to make money they would be able to keep operating. Some of the problems may be in mangement and even more are result of over taxation high gas prices and the poor economy. Cities and counties keep raising lodging taxes and many sharp travelers stay outside these cities to avoid those fees. Government has about taxed the middle income family into staying home.

If they had paid their taxes, maybe they wouldn't be closing. I think a big investigation on their business practices is in order and the owners should have their homes in the Hamptons taken away if they were running it illegally. We already know they weren't paying hotel taxes that they collected, so that right there tells me that the whole operation was probably being run crookedly.
