Woman Sentenced For Letting Baby Ingest Cocaine

A Boyle County woman has learned her sentence for allowing a her nephew to ingest cocaine.

A judge sentenced Jessica Coffman to three years in prison at a hearing on Tuesday morning. However, she won't have to serve if she completes a five year diversion program.

Last September, Danville police arrested Coffman and her sister, Ashley Carrier. Police say Carrier's 18-month-old son had cocaine in his system.

Carrier is expected to plead guilty felony assault and wanton endangerment.

You know what is odd? That man whose son got sunburnt on accident will probably get more time then these women who intentionally harmed this baby. What in the heck is this world coming to?

Crazy I say. People do crimes that dnt even equal up to this one and they have to serve more. It's crazy the woman should have to at least stay 10. Does she not realize it could have killed the child. The five year diversion program well thats a bunch of (edited) also. Do we really want someone like her on the streets or in our neighborhood. She let her nephew ingest cocaine whose to say it wouldnt be children on the streets.. Not good at all. She deserves more time!

@Brad Location: Salyersville Women always get off easy in this state and 98% of the time in the country. What can you expect a male judge that wants to kill a woman? True the sexism is unconstitutional but it exists just like the nonviolent drug offenders that actually worked and lived a normal life till they was pulled over for speeding that are now doing hard time. The sad part is there are more women in this country by over a million yet men make up over 90% of the prison population. Yet all people focus on is what percentage of what races are incarcerated.

I do not understand how some women keep custody of children and do the things they do. What happened to the best interest of the child? I guess that something has to actually happen to the child like this before the state will step in and put a child in a loving home. Instead they live off our taxes and don't even care about the children

Yep, certainly what I expected. The reasoning for light sentences is the fact that the prison population is increasing puting a financial burden on the working taxpayers. The answer is not giving shock probation and a diversion sentence. The answer is simple, carry out the sentence. Make criminals realize, if they do the crime they will do the time. Many death row inmates have been on death row for decades. Our judicial system is a joke, if you mistreat a dog, you may be sent up for several years, and you really should be, but give a baby drugs, no big deal, let them go. Makes me sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARE YOU SERIOUS??? i have a 19 month old and a 4 month old and i would never want this to happen to them. But yet - - these girls get off easy and what are they going to learn from this? slap on the wrist and the judge midas well just tell them " dont have drugs around lil babies" ~~ this is horrible ~~ they need to locked up n not be able to see that lil baby

3 years? How much you want to bet she doesn't serve one freaking day? Why should she? No one else has to and they killed their children
