CATLETTSBUIRG, KY AP) - A couple in northeastern Kentucky is working with county officials to open a new youth center and boxing club in an effort to keep children off drugs.
Tom and Mindy Hanshaw said they are working with Sheriff Terry Keelin and the Boyd County Fiscal Court to offer a variety of recreational and academic activities for young people.
The Hanshaws say the program is aimed at having youth and law enforcement interact to build relationships and with a goal of making the next generation drug free. Tom Hanshaw said the program has been his dream for several years, but now it should be a reality.
He says the area is "losing kids every day to pills."County officials have pledged to help fund the organization initially.
