Ridership Increases On Lexington's Bus Service

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - As gas prices continue to rise, Lexington's bus service, LexTran, is seeing more and more riders.

LexTran spokesman Dave Riggins says ridership has been consistently higher than in previous years.

In May, more than 266,000 riders boarded LexTran, a 15 percent increase from May of last year.

In the past two years, LexTran has expanded service by 50 percent and recently added a new commuter line.

It's a big change from 2004, when the transit system had to cut service by 33 percent because it was about to go under.

Lextran needs to fix the trip planner part of it's website. Also, nobody is going to give up their car to ride the bus when it takes 3x as long and you have to change busses so much. I don't see why this is taxpayer funded in the first place. If the company can't stay in business on it's own then maybe this city just doesn't need it's services.

How many folks must be thrown under the bus by the liberal-elites and compassionate-conservatives in DC before real energy policies are enacted? Not the "the environment is pristine wonks" kind either.

I wonder when they'll raise the price to ride the bus since more passenger equals more weight which equates to less miles per gallon. Oops, did I just give them an idea? SORRY!
