LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - As gas prices continue to rise, Lexington's bus service, LexTran, is seeing more and more riders.
LexTran spokesman Dave Riggins says ridership has been consistently higher than in previous years.
In May, more than 266,000 riders boarded LexTran, a 15 percent increase from May of last year.
In the past two years, LexTran has expanded service by 50 percent and recently added a new commuter line.
It's a big change from 2004, when the transit system had to cut service by 33 percent because it was about to go under.
