FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Police said that they received a complaint on March 22nd that Cove Spring Park had been heavily vandalised.

Upon investigating, they said that several large pieces of construction equipment were damaged, as well as trail signs, a wooden bridge, and portable bathrooms. The estimated cost of repairs for these damages was in excess of $20,000.

"It's disheartening," Brad Redmon, who's with Eco Gro of Lexington, said. He's been one of several crew members working on a large stream renovation in the park. He says he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw what the vandals had done.

"You come in, you're working hard, trying to take care of the equipment. Keep it looking good. And everything is broken out."

Frankfort Police charged three teens Monday, whom they say are in middle and high school..

Officers say they broke all the windshileds on the parked equipment, spray painted them and sprayed some with fire extinguishers. Park officials say the three also caused about 15-hundred dollars in damage portable bathrooms, trail signs and a wooden bridge.

"They've got more time on their hands than they know what to do with," Holly Peyton, a park volunteer, said.

Peyton has been a regular volunteer at the park for several years and says the punishment should fit the crime.

"I definatley think there should be some work time---supervised of course--at the park."

Redmon continued, "Find something better to do. Don't take time and money away from someone who is trying to make a living."

Police say they caught up with the kids because they'd been bragging at school.
