Mine Safety Symposium To Be Held In Utah In July

WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - After two years in West Virginia, an
international conference on coal miners' health and safety is
moving to Utah.

Wheeling Jesuit University's symposium will be held July 20-22
at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel. Technology is also a key
topic.

The symposium was created after the 2006 disaster at West
Virginia's Sago Mine, where 12 men died after an explosion and
prolonged entrapment.

The Utah event will begin with a moment of silence for the six
miners who died last year in the collapse of the Crandall Canyon
mine.

Several panel discussions will focus on preventing or
controlling so-called coal bumps with engineering design.
Communication and tracking systems technologies will also be
discussed.
