Robbery Suspect Damages Fire Station During Getaway

A robbery suspect is in custody after an overnight robbery sent him running right into a Lexington fire station.

Police say a 24-year-old woman was walking back to her apartment on Alexandria Drive when a man punched her in the face and stole her purse.

The woman's boyfriend and his friends were nearby.

They chased the man until he ran into a glass panel at Fire Station #14 at Alexandria Drive and Roanoke Road.

The victim and the suspect had minor injuries.

Police arrested the suspect, Antonio Smither, 33.

He's charged with robbery and criminal mischief.
