Newspaper Editor In Court Over Suspect's Photo

A criminal complaint has been filed against Interior-Journal editor George Lewis.

The complaint alleges Lewis snapped a picture of the suspect arrested in April for the 2002 double murder of Ryan Shangraw and Bo Upton.

The suspect was a juvenile when the murders occurred and court proceedings have taken place in juvenile court. The suspect is now an adult.

The complaint says Lewis "violated the confidentiality of a juvenile court proceeding" when he took a picture of the suspect during a court hearing.

Someone murders two people then they worry about their picture being taken. What a joke.

This is one of those cases that makes me ashamed to have a Criminal Justice degree! Notice that it said the suspect was arrested for the MURDER of two people. In my book, that means he released his rights to do something stupid like this! I have the same questions as Sean. Was the picture just taken or printed? Either way, I think this is ridiculous!

Interesting.. so Juveniles can murder, steal, and assorted crimes but have privacy rights. Perhaps if there were less "protection" Juveniles would think before they act. If a Juvenile can commit an adult crime they should face adult punishments and decrease rights. There really isn't any justice in our "justice system" is there?

Go get'em George. This is about the dumbest case that Suzanne has ever filed. You broke NO laws.

Was the photo printed? Was the face obscured? Is the editor facing charges for taking the picture or printing it in the news?

So now killers can prosecute an innocent person like this for taking their picture? Our judicial system sucks. If the reporter has charges filed against him for this I will have lost what hope I had for this country.
