Fruit Truck Crash Backs Up I-75 For Hours

There was a big mess on Interstate 75 on Friday after a crash backed up traffic for miles.

The crash happened at mile marker 97, between Lexington and Richmond, in the southbound lanes in Madison County.

The back-up stretched all the way to the Athens-Boonesboro exit, that's about seven miles.

Investigators say about 4-o'clock Friday afternoon, a semi hauling fruit flipped over.

Nobody was seriously hurt, but the fruit was all over the interstate. The truck also leaked oil and the clean-up lasted about five hours.

At one point, witnesses say police allowed drivers to use a turn around to get out of the back-up.

Even after the truck was removed from the road, police kept some of the lanes closed in order to investigate the crash. Initial reports say the truck tipped over while trying to swerve to miss another vehicle.

I enjoyed ALL of the "ACCIDENT AHEAD" signs posted at prior exit ramps !!! Kudos to all involved with that . Same situation last year in Berea . My bladder has now been stretched to the size of that fruit truck ! THANKS

Goebel, the way fire departments handle wrecks is embarressing, and they supposed to be better at handling this type situation than the rest of us. Sometimes I think its because the authority that goes with the job. The time could easily be cut in half , and in 90% of the times, its not necessary to completly stop traffic.

The incompetence of the police in clearing this wreck was seen by thousands. The alternate route, US 25 was at a crawl because no one worked the route. Special ed cops

I can't believe how long the interstate is closed for a wreck.
