Special Session Kicks Off In Frankfort

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) The Kentucky House has started a special session to consider legislation to help the state's financially troubled retirement system.

The state Senate is scheduled to begin its work later Monday afternoon.

Gov. Steve Beshear has called lawmakers into a special session to consider a proposed fix. Lawmakers say they are agreed on a temporary solution.

Beshear is scheduled to address a joint session of the General Assembly on Monday night.

He has also set up a group to study long-term solutions that the legislature can consider next year.

I'm retired from law enforcement and actually quite concerned that the state retirement system is in financial ruin, but think back to WHO got us where we are now? Yes, Fletcher and our elected officials. I also want to say for the record, if our state representatives cannot or will not do their jobs, they need to GO!! I'm tired of padding their wallets because of their own incompetence and unwillingness to DO THE JOB they were ELECTED to do!!! And if this governor and legislative body are incapable of doing the job, they ALL need to be shown the door. Why do we bother with senseless waste of our tax money every time THEY feel a need for a "special session". The only thing that's special about the session is the fact it's costing Kentucky tax payers millions of dollars to fund these bozo's!!!

Vote'em all out. Don't keep voting for the same people who make no change. Especially lawyers. Lawyers get in politics and write the laws that help thm in their practice. Vote and vote them out.

How about we charge the government for the special sessions instead of paying them extra? This is at least the 3rd "special session" called for nothing more than "special money". No wonder the states broke we pay idiots millions to do what kids in grade school could do better for free.

I love it when the legislature comes to Frankfort, you know they're sitting there going "let's see what we can mess up next". This time it's the pension system for teachers and state employees. Thank God our state constitution limits what they can/cannot do in a special session to what the Gov writes on the declaration of the special session, so they won't be able to mess with anything else while they're there...otherwise it would be another wasted mess like the session which just ended 2 months ago.

Another waste of money, time with NO effort, to solve the problem.
