LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say a man was badly injured Wednesday night after being shot in the torso in a Lexington neighborhood.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. on Ryan Circle, off North Mount Tabor Road.

Police say the victim was taken to UK Hospital with life-threatening injuries. His name has not been released, and we don't know his condition.

Police say he was shot in the common area of an apartment building. One neighbor says the noise made her jump, but she didn't think anything of it until she saw ambulances and police.

"I just heard a loud pop like a backfire," said Tamako Ingram, who has lived on Ryan Circle for three years.

Lexington Police say they are looking for one suspect in this case. That suspect is described as a black man with short hair and a thin build, who was wearing a red shirt at the time of the shooting. Police say the man is around 5'8" tall.

Now neighbors say they are on edge waiting to see who was hurt.

"The building that they're in and the apartment they are in, I know the people," said Ingram. "And they're real nice people, and from the sounds of it, it may be him who was shot so it's making me a little nervous."

Police say they're still trying to figure out what led to the shooting.
