Man Killed During Standoff With Police

Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly, police-involved shooting in Milton in Trimble County.

Police were called to a home there for a domestic disturbance early Wednesday which escalated into a standoff.

Police say when they arrived at the scene, 47-year-old Jack Berressem pulled out a gun and fired several shots at officers. Police say he then barricaded himself in the home while continuing to fire shots.

About two and a half hours after arriving on the scene, police say Berressem came out of the house, still shooting at police. At that time, police shot and killed him.

Lieutenant Fred Williams and Sergeant Howard Rice have been placed on administrative duty while the investigation is being done. Both are 10 year veterans with the force.

Again, this guy thought he was getting off easy by letting the police kill him, however little did he know that Satan was stoking the fire for his arrival. I hope he "enjoys" his trip!

This is called "suicide by cop," where a perp forces the police to shoot him/her. We're going to have to equip our police with more non-lethal long range devices to handle situations like this one. They are on the horizon. I hate it for everyone involved, the man's family, and the police officers as well. It isn't easy dealing with killing another human being, even after several years later. Ask any combat vet. No, on second thought just leave us alone, we'll deal with it in our own way.

Do we know what kind of domestic disturbance this was? Were there other people in the house with the alleged gunman? What caused him to shoot at police? A bit more detail would have been helpful on this article.
