20-year-old man in custody after shots fired at Georgia school

DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Police in DeKalb County, Georgia, say a man with an assault rifle and other weapons may have slipped inside an Atlanta-area elementary school behind someone authorized to be there.

The suspect had no clear ties to the school, and never got past the front office, where he held one or two employees captive Tuesday before exchanging fire with police and eventually surrendering.

No one was injured in the incident, but more than 800 students at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy in Decatur were evacuated.

Police identify the suspect as Michael Brandon Hill. He's facing several charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer and terroristic threats. Police are not offering a motive.
