Police: Homeowner stops burglary, tracks down suspect in Laurel County

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A homeowner fought back when sheriff's deputies say a man tried to break into a home.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says 28-year-old Curtis Scalf tried to break open a door with a wooden post at a home on Happy Hollow Road, near London, Friday afternoon.

Deputies say the homeowner then fired a warning shot into the air, causing Scalf to run off.

However, deputies say the homeowner chased after Scalf, caught him, and held him until police arrived.

Deputies arrested Scalf and charged him with attempted burglary, criminal mischief, criminal trespassing, and public intoxication.

Deputies say Scalf admitted to them that he had ingested several different prescription medicines before the attempted burglary.
