Police investigate bomb threat on Laurel County school bus

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - There were some tense moments on board a school bus in Laurel County Friday afternoon, because of a bomb threat.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says the bus was taking students home, when at least two students claimed there was a bomb on board.

The bus driver pulled over to a weigh station along southbound Interstate 75, and police soon showed up.

Kentucky State Police even brought in their Hazardous Devices Unit, and a bomb sniffing dog, to check things out.

"We didn't find anything on the bus," Laurel County Sheriff's Deputy Gilbert Acciardo said. "And the Laurel County school system sent another bus down after we had interviewed each of the children. We put them on a bus, and sent them home."

Police also searched the students' backpacks, but didn't find anything.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says charges are possible in this case.
