Police are investigating a person of interest in the death of Specialst Megan Touma. The 23-year-old soldier was found dead in a Fayetteville, N.C. hotel room last Saturday. She was seven months pregnant.
Authorities have not released the name of the person of interest but they have confirmed that the individual is a fellow soldier at Ft. Bragg.
Spc. Touma's death has been labeled suspicious but authorities have not called it a homicide. They are still awaiting autopsy results. They say it appears Spc. Touma was dead for a few days before she was found.
There is another mystery in this case. A letter was sent to the Fayetteville Observer this week by an individual claiming responsibiity for Spc. Touma's death. There was also a symbol on the letter similar to the one used by the Zodiac killer of the late 1960s. Police say the letter could be a ploy to throw off investigators and the media.
Spc. Touma was a dental specialist who had recently returned to the United States from Germany. She was staying at a hotel in Fayetteville until barrack space became available at Ft. Bragg.
