UK Basketball Museum Closes Its Doors

Almost 10 years after it opened its doors, The Kentucky Basketball Museum has closed.

The decision was made after the museum failed to raise one million dollars before Monday night's deadline.

The museum opened in 1999 with the expectation 130 thousand people would visit in the first year, but only 28 thousand did.

That number decreased significantly over the last few years. But it's not the end of the museum.

The University of Kentucky now has the responsibility of keeping the rich tradition of UK Basketball alive by opening the museum on campus sometime in the future.

It could be placed in the renovated Joe Craft Center, but no official decision has been made.

Just when I thought the Urban County Council would pass another property tax increase to support another dead body on life support the dead body vanishes.

I guess someone figured out that not everyone in this states kneels before the great & awesome spectacle of UK sports. It should be in Memorial Coliseum on campus. David, I would suggest you get on top of gettiong your stuff back as fast as you can before it suddenly just "disappears" and they tell you "sorry.....but we can't help you".

GOOD! This was a waste of money and space. Why did they think 130 thousand people would want to see statues of pampered basketball players. Fans hold these guys on such high pedestals for playing basketball it's ridiculous. Apparently though, the fans have wised up and realized they can still love the game and keep their memories without having to pay to see it. It was a stupid idea at first and is still a stupid idea and I'm a KY fan.

That's what UK needs on campus, more hicks driving around aimlessly looking for some sports-related nonsense.
