Man Accused Of Killing Police Chief Found Competent To Stand Trial

The man accused of shooting a small town police chief is competent to stand trial.

A Powell County judge ruled Wednesday morning that Jamie Barnett can go on trial next week.

Barnett is accused of killing Clay City Police Chief Randy Lacy last summer. Barnett was the the backseat of Lacy's cruiser when the chief was shot and killed by his own gun.

Another hearing will have to take place before the trial starts. At issue: whether or not Barnett's IQ is too low for him to face the death penalty.

A psychiatrist testified on Wednesday morning that she believes Barnett was faking a low IQ during testing.

Maybe when this thug is under 6 ft. of dirt the family can get somekind of closure.

If you are crazy enough to kill someone you are crazy enough to do the time. This mental thing has been used too many times. You are in charge of you crazy or not.
