Two Firefighters Injured, One Arrested On Way to Fire

The Corbin Fire Department faced some major challenges while trying to put out a fire at a home on Sherwood Drive early Saturday morning. Chief Gary Price says the fire started just after 2:00 a.m. It quickly spread throughout the three story home destroying the interior and part of the roof.

Two firefighters were hurt while fighting the fire when they fell through a floor down to the basement. They were treated and released from a Corbin hospital.

Another firefighter, Glenn Baker, was reportedly off duty and on his way to the scene when he was arrested for DUI at a sobriety checkpoint. Baker was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center. He has since been released and is scheduled to be in court on Monday morning.

The homeowners declined to appear on camera but they said that one of their neighbors saw a firework land near their home hours before the fire broke out. Fire officials will not speculate on whether or not fireworks had anything to do with starting the fire. The home was vacant and the owners were preparing to put it on the market.

I think it's wrong for everyone to automatically assume that the two firemen where "loopy". I was the EMT that treated them and know for a fact that they where not.

Why would anyone have to take 2 Xanax and 2 Lorcet? He should have known better than to take so much at one time, knowing he could be called out at anytime, that is just stupid. I'm sorry, but he is no better than anyone else that would get caught for the same thing, maybe he and others will think twice now.

First, I would like to know where you guy's get your facts. we all know if a man takes 2 lorcets and 2 xanax he is gonna be deep asleep and I don't think those will show up on a B.A. get real...Now for the fire dept Corbin has 6 on duty firemen to cover the whole city 1 has to run the truck 1 is officer in charge 1 is safety officer 1 is go getter 2 are entry team. Entry team falls through the floor. well a call is put in we need help, Corbin's policy is to call off duty firemen. Well if my dept called me at 2am and woke me up and told me 2 of my brothers fell through the floor of a burning house and were trapped I would have done the same thing..Is that the right thing to do? no. but if someone called you at 2am while you were sleeping after drinking and told you a family member was trapped in a fire and they needed you what would you do? The real problem here is the city of Corbin trying to protect the people with basically 2 firemen this crazy and something needs to happen GL rainbow

I am a firefighter here in Knox county and 2 Xanax and 2 Lorcet are NOT standerd protocal. As an officer my duty would be to relieve any firefighter on drugs of his duty. There is no excues for showing up on drugs or alchol. Sorry for the spelling errors but one of these comments got me fired up. We are expected to protect our neighbor and their property. You can not do the job effectivly while on drugs. Thats just stupid.

I have a hard time believing any fireman could fight a fire with 2 Xanax and 2 Lorcet (maybe Lortab?) in their system. I've never heard of such a thing...and it would be illegal.

IF THERE HAD BEEN SOMEONE TRAPPED IN THIS BURNING HOUSE & THIS FIREFIGHTER JUST MIGHT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SAVE HIM OR HER, I WONDER IF THEY WOULD BE CRUCIFYING HIM OVER THIS .11 ON THE METER. YES, HE WAS ILLEGAL BUT AT LEAST HE WASN'T ON HIS WAY TO THE BEER OUTPOST !!!!!!!!!!

In the Poll Submitted by Buck Farley it read at the time I took the Pole 95% to 5%. What in the world was the 5% thinking. Who in there right mind would not want us to Lose the Dependency on foreign oil. Why are we letting the oil rich people take advantage of the rest of the world? We took this land from the Indians. We and the rest of the world could simply flex their power a little and the oil would be $75 a barrel.
