27 NEWSFIRST Investigates: Lexington's Hot Wheels

It's an alarming crime, that's affecting a lot of drivers here in the bluegrass.

Lexington Police say there's been a rash of car thefts lately, all involving one particular model.

But you may be surprised to find out what it is, and just how easy it's become for thieves to take off with it.

Lexington Police say 1988-1991 Toyota Camrys are the most stolen vehicle in the city.

At least 3 of them have been stolen per month, so far this year.

Police say one of the biggest reasons is because they're easy to steal.

Many thieves are able to use a screwdriver or scissors to start the ignition of late model Camrys.

In some cases, the key can even be taken out of the ignition, while the car is still running.

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the most commonly stolen vehicles in Kentucky are all older models.

The most stolen vehicle in the state is a 1989 Chevy Pickup.

The bureau says thieves typically go after older vehicles, because they provide the best market for stolen parts.

I hope and pray whom ever took her car will please have a heart and return it to the place where it was taken from. This young mother desperately needs a vehicle for her and her two young children.
