The 5Th Annual Concours D' Elegance is set to kick off July 19Th at Keeneland.
At a time when we're starting to think seriously about driving 3 wheeled electric cars, it's still fun to look at these classic beauties of a bygone era.
We spoke with the event co-chair Tom Jones who tells us, "If we look back to the first Concours 5 years ago, there was a 3 wheeled Morgan that was the children's choice winner. You know automobiles are one of those things that if you start playing with them as a small child, sometimes those small passions turn into larger passions."
Lexington businessman Tom Jones and his wife Connie own a fleet of classic cars. But they're not content to just spend every weekend leisurely driving them through the bluegrass. Not when there's a noble cause like Kentucky Children's Hospital to benefit from Concours D' Elegance.
"It's wonderful to be able to use our passion with cars to benefit the Children's Hospital, and in our 5 years, it's been so wonderful to see all the great things that they are doing here in Lexington for the whole state of Kentucky," says Jones.
For the Jones, Concours is like a family reunion.
"We have so many individuals that will come to this event, and it is like a homecoming, truly, and they're such supporters of the Children's Hospital," says event co-chair Connie Jones.
To Tom and Connie, these cars are like children.
"We do love them all, and they all have a different feel to them. obviously, some are fast and furious, and then you've got the
others that are just great for country rides, and they all their own little spirit to them," Connie says.
Following the awards presentation this year, vintage airplanes will share the spotlight with the classic cars as the Aviation Museum of Kentucky hosts an evening of food, drink, and music.
