Teenager's Body Found In Lake Cumberland

Officials say they believe the death of Lucas Pfander, 17, of Dayton, Ohio was just an accident.

Pfander was vacationing on Lake Cumberland with a friend and his friend’s parents.

The houseboat was stopped for the night in a cove-like area and the parents and the two boys had turned in for the night about 4:00 Friday morning.

“He was last seen sleeping on an air mattress on the upper deck of the houseboat,” says Wayne County Coroner Forrest Hicks.

But about 7:30 a.m., Lucas couldn't be found. The family called for help from Conley Bottom Resort where they had rented the houseboat. Hours later, Lucas's body was found under 16 feet of water, not far from the boat.

“We don't suspect foul play," said Hicks.

Officials think Lucas may have just fallen from the upper deck of the houseboat into the water and drowned.

“That's a possibility but we're not ruling anything out. It's still under investigation to figure out the circumstances that may have led to his death,” said Hicks.

An autopsy will be performed Saturday in Frankfort. The coroner says alcohol or drugs are not suspected factors.

To answer some of the questions in this post. Yes Lucas Pfander could swim. He works at Splash Moraine in Ohio as a lifeguard and is on the swim team at his high school. There is more to this story than everyone realizes.

How awful for his family and the family he was vacationing with! I'm sure this is something none of these people will ever get over.

My heart goes out to the family and to the ones this kid was here with.Maybe he woke up and was to sleepy to realize how close to the edge he was, falling and knocking himself out. It is a terrible tragedy and I will pray for comfort to all.

Something is not right about this story. Either they left out part of it, which would not be uncommon, or there is more than meets the eye. Someone doesn't just fall off into the water without someone hearing them hit the water. It will be interesting to see what else comes out about this story.........
