Lexington Police Officer Shoots Suspect

A man is fighting for his life after he was shot by Lexington police officers on Monday morning.

Police were called to Arbor Station Way, off Sandersville Road, for a domestic dispute around 4:00 a.m.

Police say when they got to the scene, they encountered 44-year-old Warren Douglas Rayburn, armed with an assault rifle.

Police say they asked him to put down the weapon, but he wouldn't listen to them. That's when Officer Matthew Jordan shot Rayburn several times.

Rayburn was taken to UK Hospital where he underwent surgery. At last check, he was listed in critical condition.

D I agree with the majority of your comment, but what I was mostly saying is that every gun to the media is a assault rifle, because they look scary or it is more dramatic is they say it is.As a private citizen you can not own a M-4.I am the same as you point anyone pointing a gun at me I will make them a target and drop them like a bad habit.

Joe, full auto fire is not the measure of an assault rifle. The M-4 carbine is an assault rifle and it does not fire full auto, it does have 3 round burst fire, but not full auto. What defines an assault rifle seems to be the ability to use different rates of fire, (ie auto/semi or burst/semi). Either way, if someone were threatening me with either a real assault rifle or a semi auto rifle masquerading as one, and I had the opportunity to drop him, he would be dropped, just as this fine officer did.

He didn't have a assault rifle, because the police described and it is a assault style rifle.True assault rifles are strictly controlled and take lots of money and background checks to buy and keep. The gun is a assault rifle (look a like),a Bushmaster XM15.It is not a full auto gun that assault weapons are !

"...a man came at officers with an assault-type rifle" This might have sparked me to shoot.
