KVE Merging With KSP

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear has announced a
reorganization within the Justice Cabinet that will make Kentucky
Vehicle Enforcement a division of Kentucky State Police.

The two agencies share responsibility for highway safety.

Under the reorganization, Beshear says Vehicle Enforcement
officers will spend more time staffing weigh stations along
interstate highways and less time patrolling.

Beshear says the reorganization will save the state $750,000 to
$1 million a year in personnel costs, fuel savings and other
efficiencies. He says it will also increase revenue through fines
and fees.

these comments re funny, the people that are complaining about the kve pulling over cars must be the ones that were speeding and got caught.i drive a truck over the road and travel all 48 states.there are many states that have commercial enforcement.i see that these states also pull cars over.when people say their was a wreck and it involves a truck and car,99 percent of the time the car is at fault.people in cars think that these trucks stop on a dime and they don't.as far as people in trucks flying yes they do,i see it everyday.i personally drive at 57 mph to save fuel.so i know they fly but when you whip in front of a truck pulling 80,000 pounds the results are not good.so i don't care who is enforcing the laws as long as someone is.kve does a good job.i see more kve on patrol and making stops more than ksp.i used to be a police dispatcher, back in the 90's.i know after a certain time that ksp are not out past a certain time.

Wonder why they chose KVE why not fish and wildlife, Dept. of Parks, Agriculture, or even ABC or Dept. of Corrections. If they really wanted to save money they should have picked up all these agencies and eliminate all these appointed commissioners. KVE has a lot of federal money.

These comments that say the some of the KVE will now be able to become the "Big Law" if they choose to go to the KSP academy is ridiculous. People do not understand why the KSP was created. The County Sheriffs are the "Big Law" in the state of Kentucky. Per the KSP website, Governor Earl Clements saw the need of sheriffs and local police departments to be assisted or supplemented so he created the state police. The KSP are here to assist. These "Big Law" comments are not correct. The KSP and everyone else needs to get that out of their minds. Kentucky does not need "Big Law". Kentucky needs cooperation between agencies for the good of the citizens of the state. Politics need to stay out.

I have spent the past 10 or 15 minutes reading the blogs about the Governors executive order to merge the Kentucky State Police and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement. Let me start off by saying that while people are entitled to voice their own opinions, it is obvious they do this with out having all the facts, and are quick to judge another mans decision. Each law enforcement agency in this great Commonwealth we call Kentucky has an extrememly important job to do. It does not matter where or when or even how they do it. Lets just all be thankful that law enforcement is there when they are needed. It is easy to stand back in the comfort of our computer desks and scrutinize our Governors decision to merge these two agencies with out having all the pressures of running a government on us. I say we get behind our Governor and support his decision. After all, the majority of us voted him into office.I am sure that he has the best intentions for the Commomwealth in mind when he makes these decisons

KSP could not take it no more they were set up to help local law enforcement not to take over everyone. With the thousands of dui's in trucks and passenger cars KVE has took off the highway, whos going to work the roadways. KSP can not even investigate a case for doing the local law enforcements jobs because of politics. where is madd.
