Eastern Kentucky Man Charged In Fatal Wreck

HARLAN, Ky. (AP) - An eastern Kentucky man is being held on $11
million bond on charges of wanton murder and fetal homicide
following a highway crash last month.

Police arrested 41-year-old George Clem of Elcomb in Harlan
County on Monday. He also faces a charge of first-degree assault in
the crash.

The wreck happened June 20 on Kentucky 72 at Elcomb. Kentucky
State Police Trooper Bryan Johnson told the Harlan Daily Enterprise
that 21-year-old Elizabeth Stewart, who was six months' pregnant,
and her husband, also of Elcomb, were traveling east when Clem
crossed the center line from a westbound lane and hit the Stewarts'
car head-on.

Elizabeth Stewart was killed. Her 23-year-old husband, Darryl
Stewart, was injured and underwent surgery.

Clem's arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday. A spokesman at the
Harlan County Detention Center Monday night did not know whether
Clem had an attorney.
