Investigators Release Cause Of Deadly Fire

Investigators have released the cause of a fire that killed two people in an apartment building in downtown Pikeville.

Investigators say faulty wiring in the Justice Apartments on Hambly Avenue sparked the flames back on the night of July 8th.

41-year-old Tammy Renee Lockhart, and her 17-year-old son, Justin Alvis Albert Lockhart, died in the fire.

Some teenagers who were in the area when the fire started tried to get to the people trapped inside, but couldn't get everyone out in time.

A number of other people living in the building were left homeless by the fire. At least four units in the building were damaged.

So where does the blame fall concerning a situation such as this,I would think the landlord because its supposed to be his or her job to make sure the wiring is up to date correct,or is there any random checking of rental property by the fire marshall or inspectors. It is just so tragic that 2 lifes are lost because of negligance on someones part.
