2 Ky. Counties Settle Strip-Search Lawsuits

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Two Kentucky counties have settled
separate lawsuits over the practice of strip-searching more than 1,000 people who were booked into jail on nonviolent offenses such as theft and driving under the influence.
Hopkins County in western Kentucky agreed to pay $3 million to settle a five-year-old case over the practices at its jail in Madisonville.
Bullitt County has agreed to pay $800,000 to settle a three-year-old suit for strip-searches at that jail.
Both class-action settlements are awaiting a final hearing and approval from a federal judge.
Messages left for Bullitt County Jailer Danny Fackler and Hopkins County Jailer Joe Blue on Tuesday were not immediately returned.
