Coal Companies Are Cited

West Virginia officials say safety violations by prominent mine operators Massey Energy and International Coal Group contributed to the deaths of two miners in accidents last May.

Each company was cited, but fines have not been assessed.

ICG plans to contest the violations.

Four West Virginians are among the 16 U.S. coal miners killed on the job in 2008.
