Mine Mapping System Gets Recognition

A system used to show maps of the locations and size of underground mines in the Bluegrass is being recognized.

The Kentucky Mine Mapping Information System has been presented the “Kentucky Association of Mapping Professional's Exemplary System Award” for 2008.

Officials say the mapping is vital in mining operations, helping keep miners and the public safe.

The system began in 2004 with a grant from MSHA.
