Starbucks Identifies Closing Stores

Starbucks has named all 600 company-owned stores it plans to close in a push to weed out unprofitable locations.

One of those locations is a new Starbucks at 535 South Upper Street between downtown Lexington and U-K.

Five other Kentucky locations are on the chopping block.

They’re in Paris, Danville, Somerset and Louisville, where two stores are closing.

The move to close the stores is a turnabout from Starbucks' aggressive expansion plans.

But the company curtailed those plans as it saw traffic and its profits decline recently during the economic downturn.

The Starbucks in Paris hasn't been open a year, has it? I will truly miss it when it's gone. Not being a coffee drinker, I preferred their tea. Now I guess I'll just have to get my fix in Lex. like I do for everything else and continue to by-pass Paris.

If you have $5 bucks to spend on a bitter cup of coffee you should be helping to feed the homeless and the hungry. There is a lot of that going around in our state right now.

I love my uppity coffee! It cracks me up when everybody complains about Starbucks being "Corporate coffee", then runs to McDonalds or Hardees. Do you know what a corporation is? Only difference is that McDonalds and Hardees Corporate Coffee is a little cheaper...

If they can close a couple, you would think that they could figure out how to close them all. No loss for me.

It's a shame the one in Paris is closing. We finally got a taste of the outside world and now it's gone. We have also lost Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen and Long John Silver's. I still have to travel to Lexington for nearly everything, so I guess I'll get a cup of Starbucks while I'm there........

There is one 30 seconds from our house and I have never had the least inclination to go there. I'll take my own or stop at McD's.
