RICHMOND, KY -- An Illinois man was killed late this morning on Interstate 75 in Madison County when, for unexplained reasons, his car careened off the road and crashed head-on into a bridge pillar.

Kentucky State Police have identified the victim as 41-year old Thomas A. Nichols of 6103 East Avenue, Hodgkins, Illinois. A KSP news release says damage to his 2002 Dodge Neon was "very severe."

Nichols was declared dead at the scene by the Madison County Coroner. Hodgkins, Illinois is a suburb of Chicago.

The release says Hodgkins was northbound shortly after 11 a.m. when the accident occurred about the 83 mile marker of I-75 a few miles south of Richmond.

One lane of that section of the interstate was shut down for several hours hindering, but not blocking traffic. KSP Trooper Scott T. King was dispatched to the scene at the time of the crash and is investigating the incident.

The car does not matter - we lost a dear friend, a mother lost her son, his family lost a brother and an uncle! We will miss you Tommy - Rest In Peace.

That is not the car in the accident. I passed by the scene before the ambulance got there. The car was maroon.

It just goes to show you that you can't believe everything you read from these news reporters. They are in such a hurry to be the first station to report the news they don't the time to get the correct information to report to begin with. Sometimes it's so frustrating to be watching the news or reading about it and find out later that some of the it's not even true. I think they need to re-evaluate who they hire to report the news. There should be penalities for those wrong reports maybe next time they will make sure they get the right information.

Why does it say Dodge Neon when in the picture it shows an Oldsmobile Alero? Doesn't make since to me unless there was another car involved which it doesn't mention.
