BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - It was a walk to remember two lives taken too soon.
On Friday night, a central Kentucky community honored a mother and her 16-year-old daughter police say were murdered.
Kathy and Samantha Netherland were found dead in their Nelson County home Tuesday.
Police have not made any arrests in the case.
With heavy hearts, and many questions, dozens of people gathered at the Bardstown school grounds to walk and pray for those who are hurting, after the community suddenly lost several people, including the Netherlands.
"Just this last week, we lost three people that I know, and that includes the teacher and her daughter," David McIntosh of Bardstown said.
A fourth student was also honored after being injured in a crash.
Many at the prayer walk still found themselves in shock that Kathy and Samantha Netherland were gone.
"Oh man, it's been unbelievable. It's been so hard," Bardstown High School Senior Weslyn Bartholomai said.
"Everyone is in kind of in a worried state of 'What do we do, or how can we help?' The best thing we can do is just pray," Alivia Davis, who organized the prayer walk, said.
At the prayer walk, many people donned purple, blue, and silver ribbons. The organizers explained the purple represented one student lost last week, and the blue and silver were the colors Samantha was supposed to wear to prom Saturday night.
The funeral for Kathy and Samantha Netherland will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown.
