LexTran Hoping To Expand To Outlying Communities

Mass transit between Lexington and some surrounding cities could be closer to reality. LexTran is discussing the possibility with community leaders.

27 NEWSFIRST has learned a church in Clark County agreed to allow its parking lot to be used for a bus stop, if things get worked out.

Richmond Mayor Connie Lawson also says her city is interested in trying to work out a connecting bus system.

LexTran currently serves customers only in Fayette County.

GREAT IDEA. I WORK IN VERSAILLES AND I HATE DRIVING. PLEASE HURRY AND OPERATE ROUTES TO VERSAILLES!! I'VE BEEN WANTING THIS FOR A LONG TIME. GAS IS RIDICULOUS. I HAVE TRIED TO GET A CARPOOL AND NO ONE IS INTERESTED. PLEASE DO THIS!!! AND I KNOW SEVERA PEOPLE IN LEX THAT RIDE THE BUS AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS. THEY ARE GREATFUL TO HAVE A REASONABLE WAY TO GET AROUND. THANKS LEXTRAN!

The bus system doesn't even adequately service Lexington and now they want to expand? To do what? Provide poor service to more people?

You know, it's bad enough that the people in our great county of Fayette actually voted to tax themselves to fund LexTran....now they want to include another county and they've already proposed another tax hike. Every time I pass one of those buses I make a point to look and see just how many people are on them...and you know what - 95% of the time the only person on the bus is the driver. So - how is this cost effective and why on earth would we agree to go to other counties?

Raise taxes for home owners, most of which don't ride the bus anyway. The service isn't even available where I live and I pay taxes for it. Every time I see a bus there are only a few people riding them. I saw totally get rid of Lextran and give my money back.

This is a great idea. I would also like to see the bus in my neighborhood. There is not a bus stop anywhere near my house (I live off Todds Road). It would be nice if they would pick up in subdivisions.

I think this is a great idea. Mass transit is the best way to help reduce our individual dependence on oil. And I would rather pay a little more in taxes than pay over $5 a gallon for gas. To me, mass transit makes a lot of sense.

Most people may not realize it but back in the 1930's and 1940's there was a trolley (not a bus) connection between Lexington and Versailles. Not sure if there were other connecting cities or not.
