Many say that it is an ongoing problem that needs to be fixed.

Dilapidated properties in Laurel County were discussed at the Laurel County Fiscal Court Meeting.

Several people gathered at a the meeting to voice their opinions on a proposed nuisance ordinance.

There were a mix of opinions at that meeting, but the majority of the people WYMT’s Matt Barbour spoke with say enough is enough and the county needs to act now when it comes to taking care of rundown properties.

Jerry Elam and others came to the monthly Laurel County Fiscal Court Meeting expecting the agenda to be about enacting a proposed nuisance ordinance for the county, tackling the problem of dilapidated properties.

An article published July 4th in the Sentinel-Echo says the first vote on the matter was expected Thursday night.

People showed up and some left scratching their heads, but that didn't stop people from talking about it.

By a show of hands, a majority supports the ordinance.

One of the magistrates, before the meeting took place, said the county isn't ready to vote on the matter because they're still reviewing the city of London's nuisance ordinance, which is being used as a guideline for the county.

However, several people say these discussions have been taking place for over two years now.

If all that trash was on the Courthouse steps, they wouldn't take 2 years to vote on it............ So if they don't have to look at it, its not a "problem".....
