Park Standoff Suspect Appears In Court

A man charged in a weekend standoff at a Lexington Park made first court appearance on Monday afternoon.

Police arrested Joseph Humphrey Saturday in Castlewood Park.

Police say Humphrey ran into the park with a gun after they showed up at a home on Avon Avenue for a domestic dispute. He refused to surrender for several hours.

The 35-year-old had been an employee at Blackburn Correctional Complex for almost ten years. He was let go last Monday, but officials won't say why.

At Monday's hearing, he had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf. A preliminary hearing was set for August 7th at 8:30.
